Return |
Since retiring to Newport, my home town in 2000, I have been able to be very active in community affairs by way of appointments to Boards and Commissions and other Volunteer activities. | |
Broadway Improvement Organization |
I am an active member of the Broadway Improvement Organization, a citizen initiative which is actively attempting to resolve social, legal, and environmental issues in the lower Broadway area. |
Old Colony & Newport Railway | I have been an active volunteer on the Old Colony & Newport Railway. Activites have included organizing and supervising an annual railway cleanup effort [with City Year members, the City of Newport Clean Cities program, and others]. I am also a certified railroad engineer. |
Ancient Order of Hibernians |
In 2002, I volunteered to build and maintain a website for the Newport Division of the Ancient Order of Hibernians. I became a member of the Hibernians in March of 2007. In 2008, I built the AOH State of Rhode Island website. |
Newport Gulls |
From 2005 - 2007, I was a 'game day' volunteer for the Newport Gulls. |
RIDOT Adopt-A-Highway Program |
I have adopted the areas of Americas Cup Avenue and the local section of the Newport Secondary Track through the RIDOT Adopt a Highway program. This involves keeping the areas clean of litter and debris and has lead to the coordination of annual City Year Clean up projects. |
Bike Path / Pedestrian Walkway Survey |
In 2002, I designed, organized, and conducted a survey of the Newport County residents regarding the conversion of one of the local railroad tracks to a bike path / pedestrian walkway. [The results show an overwhelming interest in this idea]. |
Other Associations |
I am also an active member of the Point Association of Newport and the Friends of the Waterfront. |
