Campaign for Rhode Island House of Representatives

I was born and raised in Newport. I attended local public elementary schools, graduated from De La Salle Academy and went on to earn degrees at Providence College and Bryant University. During my college years, I was the Newport County Vice President for the Young Democrats and a Page in the Rhode Island Senate.

After a few years in the field of Social Services, I spent most of my career in the emerging world of information technology. I worked for Honeywell, Raytheon, and a other software vendors. My final experiences in the world of computers were as a pioneer in the 'Year 2000 Conversion' process.

Since returning to Newport in 2000, I have been very active in this community. In summary, I have had the opportunity to serve a secretary of the City of Newport Planning Board, as a member of the West Side Task Force, and as Chairman of the Aquidneck Island Planning Commission.

I have also done volunteer work for the Old Colony & Newport Railway, the Ancient Order of Hibernians, and the Newport Gulls.

I am concerned with the current economic and social issues in the State of Rhode Island and the effect that they are having on the City of Newport. I have been referred to as the 'voice of reason' on the Planning Board. I want to bring that 'voice' to the State House.

I am also concerned with:

  • the loss of meaningful employment opportunities in the City of Newport,
  • the 'flight' of the working class to other communities,
  • the need for better processing of undocumented residents,
  • the deteriorating schools and diminishing school population, and
  • the resulting lack of qualified candidates for public [elected and appointed] offices.

I am fortunate to have the time, health, and energy to dedicate my 'retirement' years to accomplishing 'interesting and meaningful' objectives. Toward that end, I have accepted the advice of many of my peers to seek public office.

On June 24, 2008, I filed Declaration of Candidacy papers to run for the Rhode Island House of Representatives District 75 seat.

PhotoNotes

The 2003 display of my photography at the Ocean Coffee Roasters has led to a new venture. I am now producing a line of note cards that I call 'PhotoNotes' for an article which was published on January 2, 2008. . These cards feature my photos of popular Newport scenes and matching envelopes. The first few have to do with the OCNRR Railroad, Trinity Church, the Gulls at Cardines Field, the Commissioning of the USS Chafee [DDG 90], and the local fishing fleet.

These cards are being sold in some local venues. Click here to see the latest designs and ordering information.

Web Site Developments
I have enjoyed an interesting career as a Product Marketing Manager and Software Developer in the business world. One of my more interesting activities has been the development and maintenance of about a dozen websites including this one. I build these sites in native HTML code and Java Scripts. That makes them operate very effectively and allows viewers to navigate them efficiently. Click here to see the list of sites that I have developed.
Publications:
  • Hibernian Digest - Following the Newport This Week publication, I was asked to submit an article to the National Hibernian Digest it was about the Rhode Island Hibernians efforts to support returning and homeless veterans, as well as, the program to ship care packages to Iraq. Old Colony & Newport Railway
As one can see from the Photo Collections section, I live very close to the Newport railroad track. Since returning home in 2000, I have spend a lot of my time doing volunteer work for the Old Colony & Newport Railway.

Many of my better railroad photos can be seen on New England Railroad Photo Archives. I have also built a 20 page brochure and a PowerPoint presentation for trade shows.

In addition, I now serve as a qualified engineer and brakeman for the tourist runs.

USS Chafee Commissioning - On October 18, 2003, I attended the commissioning ceremony for the USS Chafee. I wrote an article about the ceremony that was published in the Newport Daily News. I have also published a photo of the event which is now hanging on the quarterdeck of the ship. There were copies of the photo in Senator Lincoln Chafee's offices in Washington and Newport.
