To the Editor, Newport Daily News

Peter Martin is running for District 75, RI House of Representatives because, he tells me, "I have piles of plans from the various volunteer Boards I have served on, plans that have never been implemented. I want to be in a position where I can bring the issues of Newport to the State and get something done."

In response to my question - Do you consider yourself a politician? He replied after some thought, "Yes, I do, but it's my own definition of that term. A politician is a person who stays involved, meets people, shakes hands and really means it. A politician represents the needs of people in his District and attends to issues that are important to them."

Peter does seem to know everybody, both Democrats and Republicans. In working with him I find he does not tell you what to do, he tells you who to talk to. He seems to know the best resources for any situation. Can a person who is not part of a Party Machine get elected in Rhode Island? I hope so because Peter Martin is my choice for District 75 Representative.
