Anatomy and Physiology Review Pathways
Dendritic process is called afferent pathway.
Axonic process is called efferent pathway.
Also called white matter.
Non-myelinated – gray matter.
Nodes of Ranvier – gaps in the myelin.
Terminal knob – large distal end of each axon.
Within the synaptic knobs are mechanisms for manufacturing, storing, and releasing a transmitter substance.
Each neuron produces a specific substance. Either enhances or inhibits impulses.
