Central Nervous System The Brain
Meninges - form the immediate protective covering of the brain and spinal cord.
- Pia Mater - thin, delicate and vascular membrane. Adheres to the brain and spinal cord.
- Arachnoid - the next layer which is thin, delicate and fibrous. CSF fills tissue.
- Dura Mater - The outer layer which is heavy, fibrous, nonelastic.
Subarachnoid - situated between arachnoid and pia mater is subarachnoid space where CSF circulates.
Venous sinuses are between two layers of dura.
