Spinal Cord
Components
Ascending tracts – groups of cells in white matter – generally begin in the spinal cord and end in the brain.
Three ascending tracts are important for understanding neurologic problems: spinothalamic, spinocerebellar and fasciculi gracilis and cuneatus (posterior white columns).
The spinothalamic tracts begin in the spinal cord and end primarily in the thalamus.
The posterior and anterior spinocerebellar tracts begin in the spinal cord and end in the cerebellum.
