Spinal Cord Injury Drug Therapy
Solu-Medrol - in high dosages within first 8 hours of injury is the first course of treatment. Clients receiving this medication show significant improvement in motor and sensory function.
Dextran - a plasma expander, may be used to increase capillary blood flow within the spinal cord and to prevent or treat hypotension.
Atropine sulfate - is used to treat bradycardia.
Dopamine and Isoproterenol - used to treat severe hypotension.
Dantrium [Bacolfan] - may be used to treat spasticity.
Didronel - may be ordered for patient with heterotopic ossification.
