Transient Ischemic Attack
TIA and Reversible Ischemic Neurologic Deficit – RIND. Warning signs or silent strokes.
Etiology – Strokes are caused by an occlusion in an artery from a thrombus or an embolus; also from hypertension.
Risk factors include: smoking, substance abuse (particularly cocaine), obesity, sedentary lifestyle, high stress levels, elevated cholesterol, lipoprotein, triglycerides, previous CVA or TIA, heavy alcohol use.
Sudden discontinuation of antihypertensive medications can cause hemorrhagic stroke.
