Establishing a Bladder Retraining Program - Catheterization
Client typically is catheterized every 3 hours and more frequently if output is greater than 500 cc. Over time intervals between catheterizations are increased and adjusted to intake and sleep times.
Other techniques may be used. Urecholine may be prescribed. To ascertain effectiveness of these maneuvers, the nurse catheterizes the client for residual urine after voiding.
